Jubilee is a project by Russian-born, New York-based drummer Tima Volozh that came together in New York in 2022. Released on Shifting Paradigm Records in 2023, Tima’s “excellent debut release” (All About Jazz), Jubilee, features Jerome Harris (bass) and Brad Shepik (guitar). The album received a 4-star DownBeat Review and was presented at Nublu, NYC.

Now expanded into a sextet featuring Cy Leo on harmonica, Timo Vollbrecht on saxophones, Brad Shepik and Steve Cardenas on guitars and Marshal Herridge on bass, Tima’s second album “Jubilee Vol.2” is scheduled for release on Shifting Paradigm Records in March 2027. Over the past year the band has toured Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and South Korea, in clubs such as Blue Note Place in Tokyo, Blue Yard in Osaka, WiJazz Records in Taiwan and Club Evans in Seoul.

The centerpiece of the band’s repertoire is Tima’s arrangement of Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring. Born and raised in Russia, Tima was exposed to Stravinsky’s music from an early age. An excerpt from this arrangement “Adoration of the Earth — a brilliantly realized meditation on the opening of Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring” (DownBeat) was featured as Track of the Month on All About Jazz. Two other episodes – Spring Rounds and Augurs of Spring – an arrangement for two guitars, saxophones and harmonica will be featured on Tima's second album.

Another major influence on the band’s sound is the music and legacy of Paul Motian. This influence informed Tima’s choice of musicians – Motian’s former band members Jerome Harris, Brad Shepik and Steve Cardenas. Motian’s spirit and aesthetic permeate Tima’s music, with Tima’s arrangements of Motian’s compositions forming the foundation of the band’s concept and sound.

Joined by Shepik, Vollbrecht, Herridge, as well as the new addition the band – rising star Italian pianist Tommaso Perazzo, who has performed with Buster Williams, Miguel Zénon, Lenny White and Gregory Hutchinson – Tima Volozh's Jubilee is a night not to be missed.
