The Howard Britz Trio

Pianist, double bassist and composer Howard Britz arrived in Boston, MA in 1991 from his hometown, London, England. A long time New Yorker, he was inspired by the progressive Jazz of the 1960s and by his love for Latin, New Orleans and the Blues. He brings all of those elements together in his playing and writing as you can hear on his recently released sixth CD, ‘Comfort and Joy’. In live performance his sense of groove, fun, playfulness and humor communicates directly to the audience. He has played at London’s Royal Festival Hall & Ronnie Scott’s world famous Jazz Club, at the Glasgow International Jazz Festival and Edinburgh Festival in Scotland. Touring the UK with his own an other groups, he has also performed in Sweden and France. After arriving in the US he played throughout Boston and the Northeast including Scullers and The Regatta Bar Jazz clubs, where he performed and recorded with artists such as Grammy Award Winner, Luciana Souza, Sam Rivers and Danilo Perez (Wayne Shorter) including at the Lincoln Center in NYC. In Philadelphia PA where he lived for a three years, he was a regular at Ortliebs Jazz Club, and played at the Annual John Coltrane Festival with Sonny Fortune (Miles Davis). Since moving to Brooklyn, NYC where he’s lived since 1998 he’s performed with his group at the Blue Note, Smalls Jazz Club & Maureen’s Jazz Cellar. He’s toured California with Jon Hendrick (Lambert, Hendricks and Ross) and played with Kenny Werner at Jazz Festival and clubs, also with Paquito D’Rivera at the Blue Note NYC. He appears on six CDs of his own and many others, his fifth CD ‘The Feeling of Jazz’ featured guest soloist, Donny McCaslin of David Bowie fame. Howard Britz' music is unique blend of original compositions and playing rooted in the progressive Jazz of the 1960s he is an original and entertaining voice.
