Charlie Porter Quintet

Sci-Fi Standards, Vol. 1: The Future We Knew is the album release tour for GRAMMY Award–winning trumpeter and composer Charlie Porter. Charlie and his quintet perform imaginative yet recognizable arrangements of familiar material drawn from classic and contemporary science-fiction cinema, shaped into fully realized pieces with strong melody, clear form, and space for improvisation.

Chicago Jazz Magazine has described Porter as “one of the most brilliant and imaginative contemporary composers of mainstream jazz,” praising his music for its “stimulating and emotive” quality and “rare blend of sophistication and organic spontaneity.” The band’s sound is cinematic, rhythmically grounded, and highly interactive, balancing swing, modern harmony, and narrative flow. Porter has performed internationally with his quartet and quintet—including appearances in Qatar and New Zealand—and will tour China this summer.
